WORKSHOP ONE: INSPIRATION
Understanding the avenues available to making music a rewarding career.
• This will include a look at how some of our best known kiwi
artist made it to the top
• Understanding APRA (Australasian Performing Right Association)
and their criteria for membership.
• A look at copyright and publishing laws in nz and overseas.
• AMCOS( Australasian Mechanical Copyright Owners Society)
Getting prepared for the business of music
• Recognising your place in the world of art and entertainment
• Realising your worth, place and input to the community, ‘confidence
building.
• Becoming the asset and draw card to venue owners, not the liability
• Preparation for playing live.
Getting down to it
• Open forum and critique of participant’s music live or
recorded.
• Basics of a band- members, management, agent, record co’s.
• Song writing- backing tracks- radio/ tv jingles
• Sound engineering-teaching-music workshops
• Some basics of song writing, song structure- lyrics
• Some basics of studio recording –preparation before studio
Ways of Marketing and Promotion of an unknown artist
• Do it yourself: local/mechanical
• Do it on line: affiliation with organizations
WORKSHOP
TWO: ALOTOFUN
The setting up of a mobile recording studio on-site for demo track and
video shoot as a promotional tool for participants.
Collaborative song writing project by group to write, record, rehearse
and perform live.
Group achieving local radio play (depending on commerciality and quality
of recorded work and support from local radio).
Application for membership to APRA/AMCOS as a collaboration or individual
work by students.
